Another “Gilbert Goon” arrested after verdict

A second Gilbert Goon was arrested shortly after the verdict in a different case, this time in connection with two criminal investigations, police said.

Gilbert police said 19-year-old Deleon Haynes faces seven counts from the various investigations. That same month, he was sentenced on June 3 to three years’ probation for his role in an Aug. 18, 2023, attack at an In-N-Out Burger in Gilbert.

Previously, Jacob Pennington was arrested on June 13 and booked into the Gilbert-Chandler Unified Holding Facility and charged with consumption of alcohol as a minor, a Class 2 misdemeanor. That happened the same day he was sentenced for his role in a December 2022 attack at the Gilbert In-N-Out.

In Haynes’ first case, on June 12, a Gilbert homeowner claimed that Haynes came to her home, where he had previously lived but had been evicted, and started an argument with a minor with whom he had previously had a relationship.

According to police, Haynes admitted to officers that he entered the house and argued with the teenager.

Haynes was arrested and charged with trespassing (a Class 6 felony and domestic violence), disturbing the peace (a Class 1 misdemeanor and domestic violence) and disturbing the peace (a Class 1 misdemeanor), police said.

In the second incident on June 21, a juvenile victim reported to officers that Haynes allegedly made verbal threats against her and a family member, police said.

Haynes was arrested and processed at the Gilbert-Chandler Unified Holding Facility on one count of using electronic communications to intimidate, intimidate, threaten or harass (a first-class misdemeanor and a misdemeanor of domestic violence), one count of using electronic communications to intimidate, intimidate, threaten or harass (a first-class misdemeanor), one count of disorderly conduct (a first-class misdemeanor and a misdemeanor of domestic violence) and one count of disorderly conduct (a first-class misdemeanor), police said.

Haynes appeared in Gilbert Municipal Court in the second case and is being held on bail in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Haynes was also arrested on felonies and misdemeanors related to the June 12 case, as well as a probation violation.
