Kalamazoo man arrested for obstructing firefighters | WKZO | All about Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It took Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish an overnight house fire, but one person was arrested for hindering their efforts.

Just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday, a passerby called to report a structure fire in the 1400 block of North Rose Street. Officers found the apartment building with a heavy fire breaking out in the back half.

According to KDPS, initial firefighting while officers connected fire hydrants helped limit damage to the building. The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, and officers remained on scene to ensure no embers remained.

They say that while the fire was being fought, a crowd formed outside the building and a man attempted to enter the building against the wishes of firefighters on site.

The Kalamazoo man was arrested for obstructing a fire department operation and booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail.

No reason was given as to why he attempted to enter the house.
