Good Samaritan says he caught illegal immigrant accused of raping 13-year-old girl

A Good Samaritan who said he helped arrest the illegal immigrant accused of raping a 13-year-old girl described the moment he and others caught him in New York City.

Daniel Ramos, a resident of Queens, New York, said he recognized the suspect, Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, as a regular customer at a store he also frequented. He and a group of others identified Inga-Landi in a photograph as the suspect who allegedly tied up a 13-year-old boy and girl in the woods with a shoelace and then raped the young girl.

Ramos said he met with about 10 of his friends at a deli on the corner of 108th and Waldron Streets, where the suspect allegedly frequented. The suspect arrived at the deli around midnight, where the group waited for hours.

“When he came into the store, my friends Jeffrey and Angelo came in, saw him as he was walking into the store, and they were the ones that took him out of the store. They tried to arrest him inside the store, and then we caught him outside,” Ramos told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer and Sandra Smith during a Thursday segment.

According to the New York Post, footage showed the group surrounding Inga-Landi after he was forcibly dragged out of the deli. The suspect reportedly crawled under a parked car to hide from the group after he did not resist. Police arrived shortly afterward and escorted Inga-Landi out in handcuffs, the newspaper reported. “He knew it was better not to fight back,” Ramos continued. “He couldn’t really fight back because he was outnumbered and it probably would have been worse if he had. It was better that he didn’t. And he was just trying to make a plea, as if to say, ‘Let me explain.’ At first he said he didn’t care what he had done, then he tried to say, ‘Let me explain.’ But we didn’t want to hear any of it and there was nothing to explain. What he did was horrible and he did it to an innocent 13-year-old girl. So we don’t condone it.”

Another Good Samaritan, Jeffrey Flores, told NBC News he punched and kicked Inga-Landi before putting him in a headlock and binding his legs with a belt. The suspect repeatedly screamed “help” in Spanish but did not deny the rape allegations, Flores added.

“Yeah, he admitted it. He said, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay, okay, okay. Just leave me alone, don’t hit me, don’t hit me,'” Flores told NBC New York.

Inga-Landi is facing multiple charges, including rape, robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child, according to NBC News. The New York Police Department reportedly offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and a photo of the suspect.

“This is exactly what we mean when we talk about public safety as a shared responsibility,” NYPD Commissioner Edward Cabán said of the arrest, according to NBC News. “The last few days have proven to the world once again that the people of this city can come together and do their jobs like no one else.”

The two children were allegedly found in a field in Kissena Park after school around 3 p.m. when a man with curly hair and braces approached them and told them to follow him into the wooded area, investigators said. In response to the children’s refusal, he allegedly pulled out a “large machete knife,” forcibly led them into the woods, tied them up with a shoelace and raped the girl, police said, the newspaper reported.

NYPD Chief of Criminal Investigation Joseph Kenny said in a press conference that Indi-Landi entered the United States illegally through a border crossing in Eagle Pass, Texas, on June 25, 2021.

The children told authorities that he warned them to stay at the spot for 20 minutes and then ran off with their phones, NBC News reported. After that time, they rushed to their school and informed the school administration about the incident, which immediately triggered a 911 call.

The number of crimes committed by illegal immigrants appears to have increased as the number of apprehensions at the border has risen to record highs during President Joe Biden’s administration. Authorities in Maryland arrested 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, in connection with the rape and murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin, a mother of five.

Prosecutors have charged Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, with the murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley. Ibarra allegedly severely disfigured her skull with an inanimate object outside the University of Georgia campus in February, according to documents obtained by WSB-TV.

Since Biden took office in January 2021, apprehensions at the border have risen to record levels. According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), border authorities have so far apprehended over 1.5 million migrants in fiscal year 2024, with over 300,000 people crossing the border in December alone. Apprehensions rose to over 2 million in fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

According to CBP, the number of arrests in fiscal year 2020, the final year of former President Donald Trump’s term in office, totaled 400,651.
