54-year-old West Baltimore woman killed by stray pit bulls identified – Baltimore Sun

Police on Monday identified the 54-year-old woman who was attacked and killed by two stray pit bulls in West Baltimore on Friday night as Sheila Jones.

At approximately 8:51 p.m., officers responded to reports of a dog biting people and arrived in the 2000 block of North Pulaski Street where they found two pit bulls attacking three people.

A 67-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening dog bites, while Jones died from her injuries.

Melton Montgomery, who has lived in the area for nearly two months, said that in the evening, four pit bulls were seen wandering around, likely belonging to someone nearby because they were wearing collars.

Two of the pit bulls attacked Jones and chased the officers, Montgomery said. Two of the officers shot one of the dogs, Baltimore police said.

“I wasn’t bitten, but I feel the damage because I’m scared,” Montgomery said. “There were four pit bulls and two of them were chasing the police. The police were running for their lives.”

The dog that was shot was euthanized due to the severity of its injuries. The other dog remains in custody.

“Those two were the only ones they caught, but two are still at large,” Montgomery said. “We saw four dogs. I was right here and they tried to kill.”

Baltimore police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether more dogs have escaped than reported.
