A drone strike in the town of Morozovsk in Russia’s Rostov Oblast caused a fire and disruptions to the local power supply, Russian officials and news agencies reported early June 14.

Russian air defense units were subjected to a “mass attack” by drones in the Morozovsk district, Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev reported. Power was cut off in some parts of the region due to the attack.

Russia shot down 87 Ukrainian drones over its territory overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, Russian air defense shot down 70 drones over Rostov Oblast, six over Voronezh Oblast, six over Kursk Oblast, two over Belgorod Oblast, two over Volgograd Oblast and one over occupied Crimea.

“Several settlements have fallen into the power outage zone,” said Golubev.

A fire also broke out in the city, reported the Russian Telegram news channel Astra. Residents reported hearing explosions.

Rostov Oblast borders Ukraine in the southeast. Reports on Drone attacks against the region’s oil infrastructure increased in spring 2024.

There is also a Russian military airport in the Morozovsk district of the region.

In recent months, Ukrainian forces have launched a series of drone attacks aimed at damaging Russia’s oil industry and military equipment.
