Missing person found dead in Sourland Mountain Preserve in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A missing 26-year-old man was found Friday in the Sourland Mountain Preserve. He committed suicide, Hillsborough police said.

Hillsborough Police obtained a license plate for the missing person’s vehicle, which was found empty and parked in the Sourland Mountain Preserve parking lot.

Princeton police said the missing person may have been armed with a firearm and emotionally disturbed.

The missing person’s vehicle was seen entering the park on June 6 at 2:37 p.m.

Somerset County dog ​​handlers, Hillsborough Police Department officers and detectives initiated a search for the missing person, who was unfortunately found dead in the forest preserve, Wolff said.

The New Jersey State Medical Examiner responded, and although this incident remains under investigation, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Hillsborough Chief Michael McMahon said there was never any danger to the public, but the Sourland Mountain Preserve was closed during the search.
