Head-on collision with one fatality in accident in Sutter County

According to police, the Mercedes turned right to avoid the accident, but the Volkswagen swerved to the left, resulting in a collision on the unpaved shoulder of Highway 113.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. – One person was killed in a head-on collision in Sutter County Sunday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 6:40 p.m. in the area of ​​Highway 113 and Leisure Road.

According to the CHP, a gray 2003 Volkswagen traveling northbound attempted to pass two cars in front of it on the highway while a black Mercedes was traveling southbound.

The Mercedes turned right to avoid the accident, but the Volkswagen swerved left, resulting in a collision on the unpaved shoulder of Highway 113.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 19-year-old man from Marysville, died in the accident. The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

CHP said the area where the accident occurred was marked with a solid yellow line for northbound traffic and a broken yellow line for southbound traffic.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered possible causes of the accident.
