Housing authorities in Cabool, Houston, to receive grants

Two Texas county housing authorities will receive $256,304 to make capital investments in public housing, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced Tuesday.

The Housing Authority of the City of Cabool will receive $98,856 and the Housing Authority of the City of Houston is expected to receive $157,448.

This is approximately $3.17 billion awarded to 2,756 public housing authorities in 50 states and territories. The money can be used for the development, financing, modernization and improvement of the management of public housing estates.

“At HUD, our mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality housing for all,” said Acting HUD Secretary Adrianne Todman. “Today’s grant is a necessary investment that will not only ensure that the housing provided in public housing meets the needs of its residents, but it will also strengthen neighborhoods for generations to come.” »

The announced grants are provided through HUD’s Capital Funds program, which provides annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate and/or modernize public housing in their communities. Housing authorities can use the funding to make large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or upgrading heating systems in an energy-efficient manner and installing water-saving measures.
