Evansville Police: Enforcer drives away with baby in mother’s car

EVANSVILLE – Men who seized an impound vehicle near an Evansville daycare center Thursday reportedly failed to remove a small child from the car before driving away, prompting panicked calls to police from the child’s mother.

The incident was first reported on the Evansville-Vanderburgh Central Dispatch main radio channel shortly after 11 a.m. According to Sergeant Nick Winsett of the Evansville Police Department, the mother initially said her child appeared to have been kidnapped.

But on the previous Thursday, two law enforcement officers had called the operations center and informed the police that they would confiscate the mother’s vehicle at their earliest convenience – a common practice among law enforcement agencies.
