Evanston beaches closed for ‘water investigation’: fire officials – NBC Chicago

All beaches within the city of Evanston along the Lake Michigan shore were abruptly closed Monday afternoon for a “water investigation,” authorities said.

In a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, the Evanston Fire Department said there was a heavy fire and police presence at Lee Street, Dempster Street and Church Street beaches requiring an unspecified investigation.

As a result, all beaches were closed for the time being.

Footage taken by Sky 5 showed a major emergency operation in the area involving several fire boats, fire engines and ambulances.
