Man injured after incident in Park Forest apartment, shooter at large, police say

PARK FOREST, Illinois — A gunman who wounded a man fled into an apartment complex, prompting a police response in south suburban Park Forest, police said.

Park Forest Police Chief Brian Rzyski told WGN that the victim was shot in the leg at the Autumn Ridge apartment complex, near Western Avenue and Sycamore Drive, and taken to a nearby hospital. The shooter fled into the apartment complex.

The police chief said the incident was not a barricade situation, but officers searched the complex and did not find the shooter. The building was deemed safe for residents.

The shooter was still at large at 12:30 p.m.

Video from WGN’s SkyCam 9 showed at least four police vehicles and nearly a dozen officers outside the complex.
