Atlanta real estate market soars in April

Atlanta’s spring selling season was in full swing in April, as several indicators pointed to a thriving real estate market.

Sales volume increased month-over-month and on an annual basis, while the median sales price increased and new and active listings also increased, according to the latest housing market overview in the 12 Georgia Counties MLS.

On a unit basis, home sales increased 5.5% month-over-month and 1.9% year-over-year to 5,159, while in volume terms, sales rose 6.7% to $2.59 billion, up from $2.43 billion a month earlier. Year-over-year sales increased 9.5% to $2.37 billion.

The median sales price increased 0.7% month over month, from $402,000 to $405,000. This is an increase of 3.8% from last year’s level of $390,000.

New listings jumped 11% month-over-month and 35.3% year-over-year to 9,002. Active listings, meanwhile, increased 7.8%. on a monthly basis and 46% on an annual basis, to 13,675.

The 12-county Georgia MLS report includes Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale counties.
