New documentary examines allegations of sexual assault against Nick Carter

The documentary “Fallen Idols” deals with the scandals and allegations surrounding Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

The show not only investigates a series of allegations of sexual assault against the singer, but also highlights the family tragedies that have plagued the Carter family for decades.

The documentary series “Investigation Discovery” features three women who claim to have been sexually abused by Nick.

Melissa Schuman, singer and former member of the girl group Dream, Ashley Repp, a former girlfriend of Nick’s sister Angel, and Shannon ‘Shay’ Ruth, who filed a sexual assault lawsuit against him in December 2022, all comment on the series.

A title card for the four-part documentary, which began on Monday (27.05.24) and continues on Tuesday, states that Nick “denied the allegations and questioned the credibility of his accusers” and refused to be interviewed for the program.

Tragedies affecting the Carter family – parents Robert and Jane and children Nick, Leslie, Angel, Bobbie Jean and Aaron – include Leslie’s death at age 25 from a drug overdose in 2012.

In 2022, Aaron drowned at the age of 34 from the effects of alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax, and from inhaling difluoroethane – while Bobbie Jean died of a drug overdose in 2023 at the age of 41.

Melissa Schuman described in the series her alleged rape by Nick in 2003 during the filming of the television movie “The Hollow”.

She said: “He keeps kissing me and then he lifts me up onto the counter. I feel him unbuttoning my pants and I stop him and tell him, ‘I don’t want to go any further.’

“But he didn’t listen to me, even though I resisted and said no. He started having oral sex with me, which was horrific.”

Melissa said he “got really angry and irritable” during the alleged incident and continued to abuse her despite her repeated objections.

Other revelations in the series include that Nick Carter’s former girlfriend, former Pussycat Dolls member Kaya Jones (39), who dated him in the 2000s, contacted Melissa after she spoke out.

She said: “I saw a young woman trying to speak and someone who thought he had more power and authority trying to silence her.

“He knows what I know. He knows why I left him. So do I believe something terrible happened to that girl? Yes, I do.”

Aaron Carter also supported the women who accused his brother, which led to a fierce feud between the siblings.

He believed his family was involved in cyberattacks against him and hired a private investigator to investigate the harassment.

The series also highlights Aaron’s troubled relationship with his parents Robert and Jane, who are portrayed as manipulative and neglectful, contributing to the siblings’ strained relationships and personal conflicts.
