Say Yes to the Dress – Lori Allen talks about the “freak accident” that happened during filming

Say yes to the dress: Atlanta Viewers finally get a glimpse into the horrific fall Lori Allen suffered in April last year.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive preview of Saturday’s final episode of the season, Allen, the owner of Bridals by Lori in Georgia, is hospitalized after a fall while filming Season 11 of the TLC show.

Fashion director Monte Durham recounts the frightening incident in a confessional throughout the clip.

“We had just finished filming when Lori fell, and it wasn’t a normal slip in a dress,” says Durham. “She fell and hit pretty hard.”

The scene then switches from the bridal shop where filming took place to a blank screen that reads: “The cameras have stopped recording, but the audio recording has continued…”

Off-screen, Durham screams in panic, “Oh, Lori! Are you okay?”

“No, I fell on my face. Oh my God,” replies Allen, who is obviously in a lot of pain.

“Are you okay?” asks Durham, to which Allen replies, “I don’t know.”

Then a producer asks: “Is she bleeding?”

“Yes. Above the eyebrow,” says Durham.

“Oh, it hurts so much. Oh, my hands,” Allen says in agony.

And his fall was so bad that they had to call an ambulance.

“It’s pretty hard for her to fall to the ground that hard,” he says. “There was nothing we could do. We called the paramedics and tried to calm her down on the ground until they came. She just kept saying, ‘It’s bad, guys, it’s bad.'”

Although the ordeal took place outside of the camera’s view, the clip included brief shots of Allen on a stretcher surrounded by paramedics.

“She’s strong, she’ll get through this,” Durham added. “It’s going to be a long recovery, so we’re waiting for news on that.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE a year after her fall, Allen recalled the details of the “freak accident” and shared how she is doing today.

“We were shooting the opening sequence of the show, Monte was shooting a dress and the train was made of nude tulle and matched the color of the parquet floor exactly when it fell to the floor and I walked out of the scene – and I slipped on the train and fell flat on my face,” says Allen. “I passed out and don’t remember anything after that.”

“My nose and both wrists (which I broke in the fall) are still really sore,” the reality star added. “I can’t lift more than one wedding dress at a time, but I’m hoping my wrists will get better.”

Allen says her “recovery process was long and complicated.”

“Even though I eat right and exercise regularly, my body and bones are weakened from battling breast cancer,” she says. “In the fall, I learned I have osteoporosis, which I am now treating. Fall has reminded me to slow down and be grateful for all the wonderful love and support I have in my life.”

She continues, “I used the recovery period to rest, heal and rehabilitate. But I also came out of it very peaceful and focused on making the most of my next chapter.”

Allen also thanked Monte and her team at Bridals by Lori for “being so concerned and taking care of her after her terrible accident.”

“Just like when I was battling breast cancer, the whole team has given everything they’ve got to keep the place running,” she says. “I’m really so lucky to have an incredible team behind me.”

The season finale of Say yes to the dress: Atlanta airs Saturdays (8 p.m. ET) on TLC.
