Rape of an 18-year-old Belgian student in Marseille: 44-year-old suspect arrested

According to French media, the attack took place in the party district of Marseille. The victim, an 18-year-old Belgian student on a school trip, was out with 13 classmates that evening. The teachers had given them the night off.

The French media company BFM Marseilles quotes the young man’s statement. When he briefly left the group to get something to eat, he was allegedly approached by a drunk man. The man is said to have dragged him into the entrance hall of a nearby building and raped him there. The young Belgian managed to escape when another person suddenly entered the hall.

44-year-old suspect arrested

The 18-year-old student reported the incident to one of his teachers. The group returned to the crime scene and was able to identify the perpetrator. The perpetrator then allegedly tried to speak to one of the students again. The police were called and were able to arrest the man.

The public prosecutor’s office arrested the man on suspicion of aggravated rape and extortion. The suspect is in custody.
