Rain showers and thunderstorms will move in overnight and stay until Memorial Day

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Tonight: Calm conditions will end tonight as the next chance for showers and thunderstorms occurs and continues overnight. A slight risk (1/5) is in place for areas north of the I-20 corridor. Gusty winds and hail will be the main hazards from this wave of storms. This will continue into the overnight hours and into early Monday morning.

Monday: Monday morning will start off stormy for some as a wave of storms moves in ahead of the cold front. However, these storms should dissipate or leave the area by daybreak. Temperatures will still climb into the upper 30s by the afternoon, but there is a renewed chance of storms forming Monday afternoon. A slight risk (1/5) is in place for southern parts of central Mississippi and along the Louisiana border. The main hazards will again be damaging winds up to 70 mph and golf ball-sized hail. These storms should dissipate during the overnight hours.

Extended forecast: The rest of the week will be relatively quiet as temperatures and humidity will drop thanks to the cold front. Highs will be around 30 degrees for most of the week. Scattered afternoon showers are possible this week, but not everyone will see the rain. It will be dry again next weekend.
