Weather of the first warning:

• Sunday is a first alert weather day
• Damaging winds, heavy hail, tornadoes and flash floods are possible during afternoon thunderstorms
• From Monday there will FINALLY be a break from the storms

Sunday morning: The heavy rain will continue for a few more hours, but the threat for severe weather continues to decrease this morning. Most weather patterns will only see heavy rain, lots of lightning, wind gusts and light hail. This is expected to remain below severe weather levels.

Sunday afternoon-evening: After a lull in stormy weather from midday through the afternoon, a second round of strong to severe storms is possible from about 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the focus on the St. Louis metropolitan area from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gaps in cloud cover during the midday and afternoon break will help replenish the storm after the morning rain. Round two could bring strong winds (over 70 mph), large hail, tornadoes, and localized flooding. There are still some unanswered questions about where these storms will move and how intense they will be, but even if you don’t get hit with a strong or severe storm, thunderstorms are likely tomorrow afternoon!

Monday (Remembrance Day) looks dry and partly cloudy, with decreasing humidity – a welcome break after an active Sunday. The calm weather is likely to continue for most of the next work week.
