One person dies in a car accident in Pelion, SC, in Lexington County

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — Officials say one person died and three were injured in a crash outside Pelion in Lexington County on Saturday.

According to Lance Corporal Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 2 p.m. on US 178 (Fairview Road) at DE Clark Road, about two miles outside of Pelion. Butler said two pickup trucks collided at the intersection, a westbound 2003 Ford F-150 and a southbound 1997 Ford F-150.

Officials said there were two people in the 2003 Ford, both of whom were injured. Butler said the passenger died at the scene and the driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment. She added that the driver and passenger of the 1997 Ford were also hospitalized after the crash.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim killed in the crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
