Pasadena Ice House favorite, standup comedian and actor Rudy Moreno dies at 66 – Pasadena Weekendr

According to multiple media reports, standup comedian and actor Rudy Moreno died in a Los Angeles hospital on Saturday at the age of 66.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rudy Moreno,” the Ice House of Pasadena announced Saturday. “Rudy was indeed a comedy legend and an Ice House favorite. We love Rudy and will miss him very much. But the show must go on. Rudy wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Moreno was in the intensive care unit, battling pneumonia and receiving dialysis treatment, his agent Mark Scroggs told entertainment website TMZ.

“My heart is truly broken,” actor Ken Jeong wrote on X on Saturday. “Rudy Moreno, the godfather of Latino comedy, was the first to book me at the Ice House. In fact, my wife first saw me doing stand-up at the Ice House on Rudy’s show. All of this ultimately led to me performing my Netflix special at the Ice House, thanks to Rudy Moreno for constantly supporting me and giving me stage time on all of his shows.

“There are countless comedians who owe their careers to this man. And he was hilarious, the consummate comedian. I’m laughing right now thinking about his East LA Christmas scene. And he was also an incredible actor, guitarist and singer. Simply a brilliant artist. I’m getting emotional as I write this and I send all my love to my wife Arlene, his son Nathan and the rest of his wonderful family. I love you so much, Rudy. I know you make the sky laugh,” Jeong continued.

Moreno, who was born in Los Angeles, performed frequently at comedy clubs in the L.A. area and also appeared on a number of television shows, including “George Lopez,” “Monk,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Shield” and ” Dave.”

He also appeared in the 2022 film “Father Stu” with Mark Wahlberg.
