Five rescued by the Coast Guard when the boat crashed and sank off the northeast coast

Rescue workers were alerted to help a distressed boat off Hartlepool Marina when it crashed onto the rocks.

The incident began at 5.15pm and both the Coastguard and RNLI were alerted.

Lifeboats were dispatched to provide assistance and bring the five people on board safely to shore.

Luckily no one was injured, but everyone was examined by the ambulance waiting nearby.

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard coordinated the response to a grounded vessel in Hartlepool yesterday, May 11.”

“At around 5.15pm the Coastguard rescue team and RNLI lifeboats from Hartlepool were dispatched to the scene.

“The five people on board were brought to shore and examined by emergency services.”
