National Police Week 2024 in Mesa County

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – Sunday, May 12, 2024, is the first day of National Police Week 2024. The community is invited to join the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand Junction Police Department and all other law enforcement agencies in honoring everyone in to show appreciation to law enforcement who help keep our community safe.

Members of the community are encouraged to wear blue ribbons throughout the week to honor local peace officers. The tapes can be picked up at the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office front desks.


Event schedule

On Monday, the joint GJPD and MCSO Honor Guard will fly the American flag at half-staff to honor those who have given their lives in service to our community. The flag will remain at half mast throughout the week.

Two “Coffee with a Cop” events on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mountain Air Roasters (126 N. 7th Street) or The Coffee Trader (2566 Patterson Rd Unit A). Additionally, the Joint Honor Guard will present the colors at 9 a.m. during the Board of County Commissioners meeting and the commissioners will formally recognize Law Enforcement Appreciation Week. At 5:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend the Grand Junction City Council meeting to hear the GJPD proclamation of Police Week.

On Thursday, law enforcement will gather at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office at 6 p.m. for the Police Week commemorative vigil to remember the officers who were arrested too soon.
