1 dead after SWAT standoff and house fire in Coeur d’Alene | News from Spokane

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – One person is dead after a SWAT team standoff and house fire in Coeur d’Alene.

According to Coeur d’Alene police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near North 9th Street and West Spokane Avenue around 2 p.m. They found a man with a rifle on his back outside a home who refused to cooperate with officers on the scene and retreated into his home.

SWAT arrived on the scene and attempted to get the man to cooperate. Officers say they saw the house was on fire and called the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department to fully extinguish the fire.

Upon further investigation, investigators discovered a dead person in the house. Investigators are currently investigating the incident.

On Sunday afternoon, there was a police operation in Coeur d’Alene near Bryan Playfield.

A SWAT vehicle and armed officers were seen at the intersection of Spokane Avenue and North 9th Street.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a home was set on fire and officers are currently setting up a SWAT security perimeter around the home.
