The Philippines Stock Exchange suspended trading on Wednesday as the capital region of Manila battles inclement weather, including heavy rains that caused flooding in some areas due to Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi).

Because of the tropical storm, the President’s Office suspended classes at all levels and work in most government offices in the capital region, which consists of 16 cities and is home to at least 13 million people.

The country’s central bank also announced that there would be no foreign exchange trading on Wednesday.
