Tuesday’s Braves game postponed and will be made up for Wednesday’s doubleheader

Teams can designate a 27th man for a doubleheader. What that means: The Braves don’t have to make a roster move to get Winans in as the starter Wednesday. He can be the 27th man and then be sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett after the game.

This is the Braves’ second postponement since Friday, making Wednesday’s game Atlanta’s second home doubleheader of the season.

A severe thunderstorm hit Truist Park just hours before the game was set to start. The game was officially delayed before it even started. At one point, the grounds crew removed the tarp and worked on the field, but then they put the tarp back on the field.

The Braves are 1-3 in this home series against the Cardinals and Reds. After Wednesday’s doubleheader, they will fly to New York for their series against the Mets, which begins Thursday.

Despite the rain at Truist Park, hopeful fans wrap up in ponchos as they wait for the start of the game between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds. The game is currently delayed due to inclement weather at Truist Park on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Atlanta. (Miguel Martinez/ AJC)
