Police: Off-duty Chicago police officer involved in Morgan Park shooting

According to police, an off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a shootout with several armed men in the Morgan Park neighborhood in the far southwest of the United States on Tuesday morning.

The gunmen confronted the officer shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the 10800 block of South Campbell Avenue, resulting in an exchange of gunfire, police said. The officer was not hit and no injuries were reported, police said.

The shooters fled the scene in a dark sedan, but a suspect was arrested nearby, police said.

The officer involved in the shooting will be assigned to routine administrative duties for at least 30 days. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating.
