Prison staff protest after inmate attacks staff at Mas d’Enric – second incident in 2024

Hundreds of prison staff protested on Tuesday in Lleida in western Catalonia against denounce a new aggression that a prison workerr of the Mas d’Enric penitentiary.

The attack occurred on Sunday, July 21, when an inmate attacked a worker by She dragged her, strangled her with a thread and ripped out her hair.

The Ministry of Justice considers the incident as aggressionbut the workers and protesters consider it “attempted murder.”

The demonstrators also demanded the resignation of the current Catalan Justice Minister Gemma Ubasart and the Secretary of State for Prisons, Amand Calderó.

This incident and the protests occurred just four months after the murder of a prison staff member at the same center.
