Tokyo woman arrested for death of her 102-year-old mother

Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a 70-year-old woman on Monday over the death of her 102-year-old mother in Kunitachi town, Tokyo.

The unemployed Yoko Komine is said to have strangled her mother with a rope and stabbed her in the neck at around 6:40 a.m. on Monday.

At around 6:45 a.m., police received a call from someone, believed to be Komine, who confessed to strangling her mother. When officers arrived, they found the elderly woman lying in the bedroom. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital where she was taken.

Authorities are working to confirm the victim’s identity and now intend to charge Komine with murder after she was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Komine admitted the allegations and reportedly told investigators, “Caring for my mother became too difficult.”

Komine and her mother lived together without any other people.
