Investigations into shooting involving a police officer in Upstate underway

PICKENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is shedding more light on a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Saturday in Easley.

According to SLED, Easley police said they received several calls regarding a domestic dispute.

At 2:45 p.m. there was a heavy police presence in the 100 block of Scott Avenue.

Officers saw a woman and child standing outside the home, but the man re-entered the home. SLED reported that the man refused to leave the home and later encountered armed officers.

The police then shot the man, who was later identified as Daniel McGoldrick. The 35-year-old died at the scene.

SLED said that due to the nature of the investigation, no further details would be released to the public at this time.

When SLED investigates a police-involved shooting, the agency interviews all possible witnesses. In addition, SLED collects and analyzes all evidence.

All information from the SLED investigation is summarized in a case report and sent to the prosecutor’s office.

SLED added that Saturday’s shooting was the 25th police-involved shooting in the state this year and the third police-involved shooting for Easley Police in 2024.
