Clewiston man arrested after hit-and-run in Collier County in March

A Clewiston man faces involuntary manslaughter charges after he turned himself in to Collier County authorities months after his pickup truck was impounded in Hendry County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Byron Lee Billie is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal car crash on March 24.

According to authorities, Billie turned herself in to the Collier County Jail on Monday.

Three days after a 64-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck in Ave Maria and the driver fled the scene in Collier County, authorities announced they had seized the suspected pickup truck in Hendry County.

Three days after the crash, traffic homicide detectives seized the suspected fatal hit-and-run vehicle, which was partially hidden under a tarp, in front of a home in Hendry County, police said.

According to authorities, the accident occurred on March 24 at approximately 7:45 a.m. along Oil Well Road, near State Road 29, in Ave Maria.
