Sexual assault: Woman sentenced to 5 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl | News from Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A local court in Jagtial district on Wednesday sentenced a 40-year-old woman to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually abusing a teenage girl in 2021. The judge also imposed a three-year imprisonment and a fine of ₹3,000 for abducting the survivors from their school. Jagtial police said the girl’s mother had admonished her for not studying well. The girl got angry and left the house. The accused, who is her neighbour, saw the girl alone and offered her help. She locked the girl in an abandoned house in the village and allegedly sexually abused her repeatedly. When the girl did not return home and was not found even after a search, the family filed a complaint with the police. Initially, a missing person case was registered at Korutla police station. A few days later, the girl escaped from custody and returned home. Based on her statement, the case was amended and the accused was arrested. She was later released on bail. The court held a simultaneous hearing in both cases. During the hearing, the girl told the court how the accused locked her up and sexually abused her. Statements of the hostel staff, the girl’s parents and other witnesses were also recorded. Based on the evidence, the court found the 40-year-old guilty, police said.
