Two girls rescued after jet ski accident at Phillips Reservoir, one taken to hospital by helicopter

UPDATE – Monday, July 8, 5:30 p.m.: On July 6, 2024, at approximately 6:05 p.m., the Baker County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a report of two juveniles involved in a jet ski accident at Phillips Reservoir. The reporter stated that one of the victims was having trouble staying conscious.

Officers arrived on scene. When they arrived, Deputy Hansen was flagged down by the reporting person, identified as Kelsie McDaniel. McDaniel and her husband pulled the teens from the water and took them by boat to Union Creek Campground, where they met first responders.

The two young women, aged 12 and 14, were operating a jet ski when they fell off for unknown reasons. One suffered a head injury and was taken to a regional hospital by rescue helicopter. The other child was released to his family. Both were wearing life jackets.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the U.S. Forest Service, Powder River Rural Fire Protection District, Pioneer Ambulance and Life Flight.

BAKER COUNTY – According to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), two juveniles were injured in a jet ski accident at Phillips Reservoir Saturday evening.

The dispatch center received a report of the accident at 6:05 p.m. One of the teenagers was flown by rescue helicopter to St. Luke’s Boise for treatment. The condition of the other teenager is not yet known.

Pioneer Ambulance and Powder River QRU arrived at the scene and provided initial medical aid. BCSO officers and a US Forest Service trooper also responded to the incident.

Further details on the accident are not available at this time, but the BCSO says a press release with more information is expected on Monday once the full report is available.
