Gareth Southgate and his Three Lions are in the semi-finals of the European Championship, where they will face the Netherlands. As long as there are no injuries, the coach can rely on the entire squad.

England were forced to sweat over suspensions in their knockout round match against Slovakia after a barrage of yellow cards were shown in the first half of their Euro 2024 round of 16 tie.

Defender Marc Guehi did not play in the quarter-finals after picking up two yellow cards in two matches, while Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham were also cautioned in that match.

However, Guehi was the only English player to receive two yellow cards in the first five games of the tournament – and not a red card.

And the good news is that any bans will be reset at this point.

Yellow card rules for the 2024 European Championship

After two yellow cards, a one-match suspension is served.

Yellow cards collected in the group stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals will be erased before the semi-finals, meaning the Three Lions, Oranje, France and Spain will all be given a clean sheet at this stage – with the exception of players like Dani Carvajal, who was sent off or cautioned for the second time in his last appearance.

For this reason, a ban for the final can only occur if a player is sent off in the semi-final.
