IDF announces: Major Jalaa Ibrahem killed in southern Gaza Strip

The Israeli military announced on Sunday the death of 25-year-old Major Jalaa Ibrahem, a company commander of the 601st Combat Engineer Battalion, who was killed in fighting in the southern Gaza Strip.

His family has been notified and his funeral will take place on Monday at noon.

Ibrahem was killed by an anti-tank missile in Rafah, Israeli media reported.

KAN reported that Ibrahem’s family played key roles in the Israeli army. Three of his brothers served as officers in the Combat Engineering Corps and his grandfather was killed in an Israeli operation in Tulkarm in 1968. His father served in the Israel Police.

Ibrahem was previously interviewed by KAN and quoted as saying: “We are doing quite a lot and what we are doing is significant,” adding: “Ultimately, we want to destroy Hamas. We did not enter Gaza to teach it a lesson. We must ensure that it no longer exists after this and stay inside until we finish our work. We are far from finished.”

“The spirit of the soldiers is stronger”

He also spoke to KAN about the high cost of the war, but also spoke about the fighting spirit of the soldiers: “The war has a high cost, but the importance of what we are doing inside overcomes everything. Inside (in Gaza) it is hard, but the fighting spirit of the soldiers is stronger.”

Mowafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community, eulogized Ibrahem and called him “one of the best sons and commanders.”

He also spoke about the role of the Druze in the war and stressed the high price the war has taken for this community. “The heart is simply torn to pieces.”

KAN quoted Trif as saying: “We continue to discover the partnership on the battlefield and the quality in the burden as well as in the loss. This partnership and equality must exist in everyday life.”
