Two people arrested after 41-mile chase that began in Fond du Lac County

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, two people were arrested on July 5 after a nearly 41-mile chase that began in Fond du Lac County and ended in Germantown. The sheriff’s office said a deputy saw the suspect vehicle drive recklessly and at a high rate of speed through a stop sign at around 10:20 p.m. The deputy then attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle continued to drive and a chase began. The suspect vehicle then exited County Highway B onto Highway 41 southbound and continued to drive recklessly, according to the sheriff’s office. Other agencies were then requested to assist in the pursuit. The suspect vehicle attempted to exit Highway 41 near Slinger to evade tire pressure deflators. At this time, a Fond du Lac County deputy performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, which was successful. The suspect vehicle was able to regain control and re-enter the highway near Slinger and continue south. Washington County deputies and Germantown Police officers were able to successfully deploy tire deflators. The suspect’s vehicle then attempted to exit the highway onto County Line Road, lost control and drove into a ditch. Several vehicles belonging to bystanders suffered flat tires due to the tire deflators, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said one person from the suspect’s vehicle ran away but was immediately arrested by a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper. That person sustained some injuries from running through thick vegetation. He was transported to a hospital and turned over to officers shortly afterward. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Fond du Lac, was also arrested. The 32-year-old man, a convicted felon, was charged with fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety and possession of marijuana. The passenger was also a convicted felon with a statewide parole warrant. The passenger was also charged with resisting and obstructing carpooling. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Slinger Police Department, Germantown Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted.

The suspect vehicle then traveled south from County Highway B onto Highway 41 and continued driving recklessly, according to the sheriff’s office. Other agencies were then requested to assist in the pursuit. The suspect vehicle attempted to exit Highway 41 near Slinger to evade tire deflation devices. At this time, a Fond du Lac County deputy performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver, which was successful. The suspect vehicle was able to regain control and re-enter the highway at Slinger and continue traveling south. Washington County deputies and Germantown Police officers were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices. The suspect vehicle then attempted to exit the highway on County Line Road, lost control and drove into a ditch.

According to the sheriff’s office, some vehicles belonging to passersby suffered flat tires due to the tire pressure regulators.

The sheriff’s office said a person from the suspect’s vehicle ran away but was immediately arrested by a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper. That person sustained some injuries from running through thick vegetation. He was taken to a hospital and turned over to officers shortly afterward. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Fond du Lac, was also arrested.

The 32-year-old man, a convicted felon, was charged with fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety and possession of marijuana. The passenger was also a convicted felon who had a federal arrest warrant on probation and parole. The passenger was also charged with resisting arrest and obstructing passengers.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Slinger and Germantown police departments, and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted.
