Off-duty BSO deputy killed in motorcycle accident

Sunrise, Florida. – An off-duty Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed in a motorcycle crash in Sunrise on Thursday.

Scattered car parts and debris lay littered on Pine Island Road north of Northwest 44th Street after the serious crash left two people injured and one man dead.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. when the motorcyclist collided with a car while attempting to turn onto Springtree Lakes Drive, according to witnesses.

The two women in that vehicle – a mother and her adult daughter – were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries, while the man on the motorcycle died despite rescue workers attempting to save his life.

Relatives identified the victim as 27-year-old Anthony Zahorovsky, a deputy with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Family members said Zahorovsky said he was the father of a baby boy and his wife was expecting their second child.

“He was family-oriented, a good father,” said Catherine Ruiz, the victim’s cousin. “He was always there for all of us. I wanted to see him in the next few hours. We were going to spend the Fourth of July together and he was on his way to get things.”

Local 10 News learned there may be a police escort when Zahorovsky’s body is taken to the medical examiner’s office.
