Neil Gaiman has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted two women during consensual relationships.

The alleged victims claim to have had degrading sex with Gaiman that was not always consensual. The Sandman creator otherwise had consensual relationships with both women.

The alleged incidents were reported as part of a Tortoise investigation, led in part by Rachel Johnson, Boris Johnson’s sister.

Gaiman, 63, has claimed he offered his assistance to New Zealand police following a woman’s complaint in 2022, but it was not accepted. He said this showed the complaint had no substance.

The release said authorities had “made several attempts to speak with key individuals as part of the investigation, and those efforts are ongoing.”

They added that in this case “a number of factors need to be taken into account, including the location of all parties”.

One woman claimed to the publication that she was sexually assaulted within hours of meeting Gaiman in 2022, when she was 22 and he was 61.

She reportedly filed a police complaint against Gaiman, but due to a lack of evidence, he was never charged with a crime.

Gaiman insisted that their three-week sexual relationship was consensual.

He also said the woman’s messages were “proof that she had consented to have sex with him,” Tortoise reported.

The second woman was 18 when she met Gaiman in 2003.

She claims they began a relationship when she was 20 years old and that they had rough and painful sex that she “neither wanted nor enjoyed.” The woman claims that she and Gaiman had sex once, although she said she did not want to.

Gaiman stressed that the sexual encounters were consensual and that no actual sexual intercourse occurred, Tortoise reported.

The allegations are the subject of a four-part podcast titled “Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman.”

The English author also wrote the series “Good Omens” and “American Gods” for Amazon Prime Video.

Steve Coogan, Douglas Booth and Indya Moore have just been announced as new cast members of the Netflix series “The Sandman,” based on Gaiman’s comic.

Gaiman was married to Amanda Palmer between 2011 and 2022 and the couple have a son together. Palmer spoke about her decision to be non-monogamous in a 2019 interview.

“There are many kinds of open relationships… we’re not interested in big, multiple relationships; we’re just slutty, but in a compassionate way,” she told the Times.

He also has three children with his ex-wife Mary McGrath.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Gaiman’s representatives and New Zealand Police for comment.
