1 dead after police chase ends in accident in Iredell Co.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – One person was killed during a chase involving the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Iredell County Tuesday morning.

According to NCHSP, just before 9 a.m., a trooper stopped to check on two occupants of a silver Hyundai Elantra as they were changing a flat tire on I-40.

The highway patrol stated that the two people had given the officer false identities and that after further investigation the passenger may have been sought.

When checking the arrest warrants, the police officer asked the two people to remain at the crime scene. However, both occupants fled the scene in the vehicle.

The trooper then pursued the vehicle east on I-40; the driver of the Elantra took exit 150 toward NC-115 and crashed into the rear of a FedEx truck.

The driver, identified as Ridge Raeshaun Gray, 27, was taken into custody and treated at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger who died at the scene was identified as Keonte Shakir Forney, 28.
