1 dead after another driver ignores red light at Miami Gardens intersection

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – A fatal crash on Miami Gardens Drive forced a portion of the road to be closed early Tuesday morning. Police say the accident was caused by a driver who ignored a red light.

The accident occurred sometime before 5:45 a.m. at Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest 22nd Avenue.

A Miami Gardens police spokesman said the driver of a gray Infiniti traveling west on Miami Gardens Drive ran a red light and collided with an orange Ford Taurus traveling south on Northwest 22nd Avenue.

According to MGPD, paramedics pronounced the driver of the Taurus dead at the scene, while the driver of the Infiniti was taken to a nearby hospital.

The police have not released the names of those involved.

Authorities have not yet announced whether or what charges will be brought against the Infiniti driver.
