Governor Yahaya suspends village chief and town councillor over alleged theft

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has suspended the village head of Garin Majidadi in Akko Local Government Area, Mohammed Majidadi, and the councilor of Kumo East District, Abdullahi M. Panda, over alleged theft.

Naija News reports that Government Secretary Ibrahim Njodi announced in a statement on Friday that Governor Yahaya had agreed to the immediate suspension of the persons concerned.

He said the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and expressed confidence that justice will prevail and the law will take its course, not only against Majidadi and Panda, but also against all other persons guilty of complicity in the theft.

The statement read: “The suspensions follow recent developments involving the two officers paraded by the Gombe State Police who are currently facing trial for conspiracy to steal and subsequently sell a municipal electricity transformer in Garin Majidadi.

“The suspension of both officials is a preventive measure to ensure that there is no interference in the legal process.”

Meanwhile, the Gombe State Electoral Appeals Tribunal has fixed July 9 as the date for continuation of hearing of appeals filed in connection with the election in Billiri Local Government Area of ​​the state.

Naija News understands that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had turned to the court to challenge the results of the local elections of April 27, 2024.

The PDP filed a petition challenging the victory of the Gombe Local Government Chairman Sani Haruna and his deputy Muhammad Adamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)and the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GSIEC).

In addition, the PDP candidate in Billiri Local Government initiated legal action against the announced winner. Egla Idris.

The PDP petition, which was made available to the press, calls for various remedial measures, including a declaration that the election conducted by the GSIEC on April 27, 2024, is null and void due to corruption, irregularities and violations of the law.
