Britain is concerned after the Netherlands nominated a child molester for the Olympics

British Olympic officials have raised serious concerns after a Dutch beach volleyball player was sentenced to prison for raping a 12-year-old English girl who had qualified to compete in next month’s Olympic Games in Paris.

According to the official website of the Dutch beach volleyball team, 29-year-old Steven van de Velde “will represent the Netherlands at the Olympic Games”.

Van de Velde was sentenced to four years in prison in March 2016 after admitting three counts of rape of a 12-year-old child he met on Facebook. He was 19 when he flew to the UK to meet the girl.

“Before you came to this country, you trained as a potential Olympian. Your hopes of representing your country are now a shattered dream,” said British judge Francis
