“Incident” in Brownville leads to closure of Railroad Avenue

BROWNVILLE, Maine – Officials are on the scene of an “incident” in Brownville Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the City of Brownville posted on Facebook that Railroad Avenue at the underpass just off Route 11 was closed to all traffic and pedestrians until further notice. Shortly afterward, the post was updated to say one lane had reopened.

NEWS CENTER Maine emergency crews noticed a large piece of construction equipment surrounded by cordon tape.

Officials from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office and the Brownville Fire Department were on scene but said they could not provide any information about the incident.

As of 6:30 p.m., one lane was still open on Railroad Avenue and traffic was being directed by the Brownville Fire Department.
