Mets player Edwin Diaz will not appeal 10-game suspension

Edwin Diaz will not try to fight the system.

The Mets closer will not appeal the 10-game suspension he received Sunday night at Wrigley Field for a sticky object and will serve his suspension on Tuesday night in the Subway Series opener against the Yankees.

Diaz, 30, is eligible to return for the second game of a four-game wraparound series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on July 6.

The right-hander did not pitch on Sunday night as umpires checked him during warmups for the ninth inning and ejected him for what they considered to be a suspiciously sticky hand.

Diaz said he only had sweat and rosin on his right hand.

“I think it’s the same (the stickiness),” Diaz said after the game. “They always control me, they let me pitch. But today it was hotter than earlier in the season, I don’t know, they thought it would be stickier, so I’ll take the suspension.”

“I’m going to keep using the same one because they didn’t find anything in my glove, my hat and my belt. I’m going to keep using (the same one).”

Crew chief Vic Carapazza denied Diaz’s claim.

“It definitely wasn’t rosin and sweat,” Carapazza told a billiards reporter after the game. “We’ve checked thousands of them. I know the feeling. That was very sticky.”
