MALAPPURAM: The Valanchery police on Saturday arrested three persons for allegedly breaking into the house of a young woman and raping her. The accused are Vellattupadi Sunil Kumar, 34, Thamithodi Sasikumar, 37, and Thamithodi Prakasan, 38, all residents of Edayoor.

According to the woman’s complaint, the incident took place on June 16 at around 11 pm. When the trio came to know that the woman was living with her grandmother in Edayoor since the death of her parents, they broke into the house and sexually abused her. After the incident, the woman suffered severe mental stress and narrated the incident to her friends when they asked the reason behind her behaviour. She later lodged a complaint with the Valanchery police last Thursday. At the station, the woman suffered a seizure and was later admitted to Manjeri Government Medical College Hospital. A constable of the Valanchery police said the woman’s health has improved. Tirur DySP PP Shams is leading the investigation.

The police team took Sunil and Sasikumar into custody in Edayoor. Prakasan was taken into custody in Palakkad after he fled from Valanchery on learning about the arrest of the other accused.
