Brattleboro police make arrest in investigation into fatal stabbing

Brattleboro police have arrested a person accused of stabbing someone Thursday night. Police said they responded to a call on Flat Street near the Brattleboro Transportation Center around 10:30 p.m. about a reported stabbing. The victim was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Court documents obtained by NBC5 identify him as 25-year-old Aaron Colburn. An autopsy revealed Colburn died from a single stab wound to the chest. On Friday afternoon, police arrested 19-year-old Lavadus Williams of Brattleboro and charged him with first-degree murder. Surveillance images in court documents show the two men getting into an altercation, during which Williams can be seen stabbing Colburn. Williams appeared in court Friday afternoon to answer the charge, according to police. NBC5 is working to learn his plea. The investigation is ongoing. Brattleboro police have arrested a man accused of stabbing someone to death Thursday night.

Police said they responded to a 911 call about a reported stabbing on Flat Street near the Brattleboro Transportation Center around 10:30 p.m.

The victim was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Court documents obtained by NBC5 identified him as 25-year-old Aaron Colburn.
