More and more accidents involving children on bicycle back seats

In Japan, the number of accidents involving children on the back of bicycles is increasing. According to a recent report, there have been 207 incidents in the last five years.

In the cities of Japan, especially Tokyo, cycling with children in the back seat is a popular mode of transport for many parents. Drivers aged 16 and over are allowed to ride a bicycle with a preschool-aged child in a child seat attached to the bicycle.

However, the National Consumer Affairs Center warned that there has been an increase in accidents involving small children in the back seat of bicycles.
