Westport police arrest man after incident on multiple weapons charges and drunk driving charges – Fall River Reporter

A man is charged with possession of a weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in Westport.

According to Westport Police, Officer Ryan Williams stopped a red Subaru WRX with a North Carolina registration around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was swerving across the roadway and following too closely to the vehicle in front of it.

While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, Ian Ruml of Newport, North Carolina, Officer Williams became convinced that Ruml was under the influence of alcohol.

Sergeant Jarrod Levesque came to the rescue and Ruml was pulled from the vehicle and taken into custody.

While Officer Williams was searching Ruml, Sergeant Levesque noticed a gun holster in the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle. When questioned about the holster, Ruml stated, “I don’t have a gun on me.” A search of the vehicle found a black Glock 9mm high capacity pistol with a high capacity magazine fully loaded with 15 rounds. Additional ammunition was also found in the vehicle.

Ruml is charged with DUI (second offense) while under the influence of alcohol, carrying a loaded firearm while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a high capacity firearm without a permit, possession of a high capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition and related traffic law violations.
