New gaming handheld alert: Asus will stream information about the “next ROG Ally” tomorrow

Back in January, we reported that Asus was planning a new model of ROG Ally gaming handheld for 2024, and that time seems to be near. Or at least almost, because according to an announcement on the ROG Discord server, “the next ROG Ally is coming” and the ROG community people will be excited about the new hardware in a livestream on May 9th. You’ll be able to do that to watch the stream in the video above when it premieres at 12pm Pacific Time.

The announcement doesn’t mention whether the new hardware will actually be shown, so there could be a lot of talk around the details of an upcoming reveal.

Will this be a full reveal of the ROG Ally 2 or more of a hardware refresh like the Steam Deck OLED? Leaks suggest an updated model with more or less the same hardware but with a fixed SD card slot and possibly a larger battery will be part of Asus’ Computex 2024 lineup. On June 3rd, Asus is hosting a hardware launch event (focused on AI, of course) as part of the Taiwanese trade show, so we’ll get a closer look at the new model soon.

Assuming the leak is accurate, we may be waiting a little longer for the real Ally 2. It would definitely make a lot of sense for Asus to wait until AMD’s new Strix Halo APU hits the market as a monster of a GPU that seems primed to give gaming handhelds a significant performance boost.
