Man accused of raping American tourist released due to lack of evidence – Love FM Belize News & Music Power

A man charged with raping an American tourist has been released after the case collapsed due to lack of evidence. Adam Meighan appeared in the Supreme Court of Belize today and was told that the prosecutor had requested a nolle prosequi and dismissed the case against him. The prosecutor stated that no DNA evidence was collected from the victim at the time of the alleged rape. Meighan was accused of raping the 49-year-old victim in the Vista Del Mar neighborhood of Ladyville in December 2018. She told police that she was leaving her home when she saw a man walking toward her with a rusty machete. She said that while she was scanning the road to see if her vehicle would get through the mud, the man ran up behind her, knocked her down and then raped her. She gave police a description of her attacker, which led to Meighan’s arrest. The victim died the following year. We note that this is Meighan’s second rape charge that did not end in a conviction.
