Woman with large knife shot by police at Denver intersection, police chief says

According to police, officers shot and killed a woman holding a large hunting knife at an intersection in downtown Denver on Sunday

DENVER – Officers shot and killed a woman holding a large hunting knife at a downtown Denver intersection on Sunday, police said.

Officers used a Taser on the woman twice, but she came toward them as they tried to back away from her, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said at a news conference near the scene. Three officers shot at her, he said.

The shooting is being investigated and the results will be presented to the prosecutor, who will then decide whether the shooting was lawful, he said.

“I believe the officers perceived a significant threat and responded to it,” Thomas said.

The woman’s age and name were not immediately known.

The shooting occurred around noon near Coors Field.
