Fullerton police shoot man who allegedly ran toward them armed with knives

Early Saturday morning, police shot and killed a man who ran toward them holding a knife in each hand.

They were called to the 200 block of East Imperial Highway around 5 a.m. after learning of a man who was allegedly armed and threatening people, a Fullerton police statement said.

“The reporting party informed the caller that he had been the victim of a weapons demonstration and that he should send several officers due to the man’s dangerous behavior,” the police statement said.

Officers stated that upon arrival, they came into contact with the suspect, who appeared to be holding a knife in each hand. They ordered him to drop the weapons several times before he allegedly ran toward them, at which point they opened fire.

The man, whose identity has not yet been established, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

No further injuries were reported.

Investigators found a knife and a carpet knife at the crime scene.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting.
